What is the best inclination for pawns? ›

Straightforward is the best Pawn Inclination in Dragon's Dogma 2 due to their aggressiveness in battle. Because of their ruthlessness, you can use these pawns to tank hits for you during a fight and draw enemy aggro to them while you rain down spells or arrows if you're an Archer or a Mage.

Calm is the strongest Inclination choice for an Archer, especially as it gives them a slightly higher chance of aiming for, and landing shots on, enemy vital points. Calm Archers also keep themselves out of harm's way, something you're less likely to find with Simple or Kindhearted Archers.

There are four types of pawn inclinations. When you enter the covenant with your main pawn, you will be able to select an inclination for them. This will determine certain aspects of the pawn's behavior, including their manner of speech and the actions they tend to take.

Each inclination affects what your pawn does and how they approach combat. The decision doesn't need to be a permanent one, but it's important to start out on the right foot to get the most out of your adventure. There are four inclinations: calm, kindhearted, simple, and straightforward.

Once you have Rift Incense and are ready to change your pawn's inclination, head to a Campsite and make camp. While in the camp, approach your Main Pawn, hail them, and then give them the Rift Incense to change their inclination, which will grant them a new inclination and voice.

Chirurgeon Specialization

Pawns with a Kindhearted inclination make for the best Chirurgeons because they prioritize support and defense in combat. This is also the best pawn inclination for Mages, so you can have a Chirurgeon Mage for extra healing support.

General Rules

Always keep your arrows pointed down or towards the target. Shoot only at your target. If you drop an arrow, leave it on the ground until you are told to get your arrows.

The best Pawn vocations are quite simple to deduce for Pawns – Fighter and Mage. While a Pawn can also become an Archer, Thief, Warrior, and Sorcerer, the Fighter and Mage vocations have by far the most support utility. Of course, you'll likely have your Pawn assume multiple classes in order to unlock Augments.

Best Pawn for an Archer

Fighter is a natural choice, since archers don't do well in close combat, but thieves can fill that role just as easily. Their speed draws enemies away and leaves you free to pick off enemies from a distance without interruption.

Medicant/Utilitarian is indeed the best inclination combo for support mages. And all mages really should be support, since Sorcerers do the damage dealing simply much better. As for offensive Sorcerer inclinations, Scather seems to be the best.

Fighter Pawns are most effective when they're built around tanking and grabbing enemy aggro. Blink/Burst Strike and Shield Summons/Drum are the most important skills here; the former allows the Pawn to quickly come to the aid of allies, while the latter makes sure enemies stay focused on them.

If you want to change the Vocation of either the Arisen or Main Pawn (or both) in Dragon's Dogma 2, then you need to visit a Vocation Guild, such as the one in Vernworth. Certain inns, like the one in Melve, will also offer you the chance to change your Vocation.

Assigning your main Pawn the Mage vocation is the best choice you can make. Mages are well-rounded and powerful, wielding both offensive and restorative spells. If you plan on taking damage in combat, a Mage Pawn can heal you. Mages lack offense when they just start out, but elemental control cannot be underestimated.

Pawn structure weaknesses (also known as structural weaknesses) can occur in many ways. Doubled pawns, backward pawns, isolated pawns, and holes are the most notable deficiencies in pawn structures. If your opponent has one of these structural weaknesses, you should try to use it against them.
