These Belgian waffle irons have a deeper grid pattern than a regular waffle maker. In a regular waffle maker, the batter is poured in and the hinged lid is closed. Why are rotating waffle makers better? ›

A rotating waffle maker allows the batter to spread and cook more evenly, resulting in waffles that are fluffy on the inside yet crispy on the outside. Other waffle makers that don't rotate may require more batter and tend to make denser waffles that are crispier and browner on one side.

Why are Belgian waffles so good? ›

Belgian waffles are beloved for their extra-deep pockets—the better for filling with butter, jam, or maple syrup. They are often thicker than their American counterparts, and made with a yeasted batter and crunchy pearl sugar.

Why are Belgian waffles so crispy? ›

Texture – In Belgian waffles, the eggs are separated. The yolks are whisked together with the other wet ingredients, while the whites are whipped to stiff peaks and then folded into the batter at the end. This creates a texture that is crisp on the outside and light and tender on the inside.

Why won't my waffles get crispy? ›

Make Sure Your Waffle Iron Is Hot

You should actually hear the batter sizzle on contact. The outer crust will immediately begin to set and crisp. Moisture in the batter quickly turns to steam and evaporates out the sides of the pan. If the iron isn't hot, none of this happens and the waffles will be soggy and squishy.

How to get waffles crispy in a waffle maker? ›

Pour the batter into a preheated waffle maker and cook for about 3-4 minutes. Enjoy! Note: If the waffles don't get crispy enough in your waffle iron, place them on a rack set on a baking sheet (or it can be the rack in the oven if it's clean) and bake in a 250F oven for another 5-10 minutes, until crisp.

Should leftover homemade waffles be refrigerated? ›

Refrigerate the waffles within 2 hours of cooking them.

Any waffles left out for more than 2 hours could have unsafe bacteria on it, so throw them out instead. Bacteria spreads on any food under 140 °F (60 °C). Quick storage prevents bacteria from forming, keeping your waffles safe for another day.

Belgian waffles are usually thicker than their American counterparts. These Belgian beauties are made with a recipe that includes yeasted batter and crunchy pearl sugar. Belgian waffles have extra-deep pockets—the better for filling with butter, jam, maple syrup, or whipped cream.

What happens when you put pancake mix in waffle maker? ›

Why are my waffles not light and fluffy? ›

Making pancake and waffle batter ahead of time is a huge no-no and will lead to flat, dense results every time. Even letting your batter hang out for just a few minutes after you've mixed it before you start ladling it onto the griddle will lead to less fluffy results.
