My Experience with Dermalogica | Which Products are Worth the Money - From My Vanity (1)

Dermalogica has always been that brand I would eye at Ulta or Sephora as a teen and marvel over the high price tag — could those products REALLY be worth it?? Over the past few years I’ve gotten the opportunity to try several of their products (some I received as PR, but others I’ve purchased myself) and I wanted to share this post to hopefully help you decide — if you’ve been eyeing the brand as well — which products are worth the money and which ones you could skip.

Is Dermalogica worth the money?

I haven’t tried everything that Dermalogica has to offer, but I have used 8 of their products in the past recent years/months and have a good grasp on how it works for my skin — one I’ve even repurchased! Remember that I can only speak to how these products work on my skin, which is dry/normal in winter and oily in summer. I’m nearly 28 and have fine lines around my eyes and mouth, and significant lines on my forehead. I don’t struggle with acne too much these days, but still get the occasional random zit or a few breakouts around my period. Okay, with that info out of the way, let’s get into the products!

Dermalogica stress positive eye lift | $69

Let’s start with the product I have the most experience with — I say that because this is my THIRD tube! Yes, I’ve gone through 2 whole tubes of this in the past and I am continuing to enjoy the effects this has on my under eyes. I tend to use this in the mornings when I do my skincare routine as I find it’s very thin and soaks in quickly/easily (feels like a serum) and wears beautifully under makeup. Not only does it keep my under eyes hydrated, but because of the metal tip it does a great job to gently depuff my eyes in the morning. I find that when using this product, my concealer looks better and wears better throughout the day. It doesn’t make my fine lines disappear, but I can definitely say it reduces them! Recording videos for Youtube I’m able to really see how the Stress Positive Eye Lift helps to reduce the look of lines under my eyes and overall just give my under eyes a more smoothed look.

IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?? I would have to say this one definitely is! I know it’s expensive, and it hurts my heart to spend SO much on a product for such a small area of my face…but there’s NO denying I can see a big difference when I use this product. And since fine lines under my eyes has always been an issue for me, it’s money well spent to purchase a product that gives me such visible results.

Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin Power Firm | $65

So this product is unlike any other eye-type cream I’ve ever used. I first started using it like I would a night eye cream, but it’s actually a very thick and silicone-feeling product. It’s supposed to help fill in and smooth lines, which I can totally say it does. So if you were to want to use this before makeup, I did notice a more airbrushed look to my under eyes. But I preferred to use it at night to lock in my eye cream and act as an extra layer of nutrients and hydration.

IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?? Short answer: YES. I’m nearly out of this tube and I’ve loved having it a part of my routine! I tell you, there’s something special about Dermalogica eye products! The drugstore eye creams I’ve tried in the past just don’t do what these eye products do for my under eyes. Not that it takes away EVERY line under my eyes — I don’t want to mislead you — but it’s made a big difference in how they look and how makeup looks and wears on my face and it’s worth the price tag, for me personally, to have such beautiful results!

Dermalogica Sheer Skin Tint | $45

I’ve always been intrigued to see if skin tints or tinted moisturizer would give me enough coverage to feel refreshed and slightly airbrushed, so wanted to see if Dermalogica could give me that. And while I find that this does give me the SLIGHTEST tint to my skin, it really doesn’t provide even the tiniest bit of coverage. It comes out looking like a thick cream (kinda like a thick foundation) but smooths over the skin like a typical pore filling primer would — it’s very slick feeling. It wears nicely throughout the day and it plays nicely with any makeup you put on top (concealer or powder).

IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?? Not really, unless you’re someone who pays close attention to ingredients and prefers what they put in this. For me personally, it behaves the same as my favorite COOLA Mienral Matte Tinted moisturizer, and that one is more product for lower price…so it just feels like a no-brainer. Not to say there’s anything wrong with this product, it just didn’t wow me enough to justify the price tag when there’s another product I know and love that’s more cost effective and does the same thing.

Dermalogica PreCleanse | $45

I love having a cleansing balm or oil to remove my makeup, so I as excited to see how this would work for me. It has a pleasant smell and one pump is almost the perfect amount to remove my makeup. I feel like most days when I use this, if I take my time massaging it onto my skin, I’ll be left with just a little mascara residue after I finished washing it off.

IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?? I have a hard time saying this definitely is worth the price tag. Yes it takes off my makeup really, really well….but at the same time I’ve tried several other cleansing oils that ALSO take my makeup off really well and cost WAY less than this one. So if you want to splurge or are determined to try Dermalogica, the PreCleanse definitely works! But you can also find something more inexpensive that also works well.

Dermalogica HydraBlur Primer | $49

I’ve had this in my collection for months, but just recently reach back for it because I couldn’t remember if I liked this product or not. Oh my goodness — this was a hidden treasure in my collection!! I have so many pore filling primers in my collection that I’m always left wondering what it did, but THIS stuff — I can immediately SEE what it does, even before foundation! My pores look blurred and smoothed and after I finish applying my makeup…my enlarged pores or acne scars are either REALLY diminished or hidden all together.

IS THIS WORTH THE MONEY?? I’m sure it won’t come as a surprise, but YES! I totally think this is worth buying! I feel like I can get rid of all other pore filling primers in my collection and just use this — and I plan to use this Dermalogica HydaBlur Primer to test my other primers and if they can’t do what this one can…I’ll be decluttering! I always wondered if pore filling primers were really worth the effort of applying, because they never seemed to do much…but this product leaves no doubts — you can SEE the difference!

Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon | $82

This was something I purchased during an Ulta sale — which would TOTALLY be my recommendation, this price tag is STEEP — and when I started using it I was having really bad issues with dryness around my nose. I’m not someone who typically deals with dry skin, but this winter I definitely had a problem spot around my nose. Any kind of makeup on there just looked HORRIBLE. But shortly after starting to use this at night to finish off my skincare routine…my dry area around my nose completely went away and now my makeup sits beautifully there. I didn’t notice it right away because the weather here in FL was starting to get warmer….so maybe it’s a mixture of the two, but I do think this product had an active part in helping to overall smooth and nourish my skin. Thank

IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?? If you are someone who struggles with dry/rough skin, I absolutely think this is worth the money. However, now that my dry skin issue is cleared up and we are moving to summer in FL (when I’m oily) I don’t notice as much benefits of using this product. So realistically I don’t think I’ll repurchase it anytime soon, but I could totally see picking it up on sale again this fall in preparation to combat by dry issues that I often have during the coldest season. Well have to see if, once I finish this jar and move on to something else, I notice a big difference (for the worse) and change my mind!

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant | $59

I don’t have a picture of this product because I used up my container about a year ago…so sorry for the stock image! 🙈

I have to say up front, physical exfoliates really scare me. Ever since I learned how most physical exfoliants are too harsh and can cause more damage to your skin, I’ve stuck to chemical exfoliants. My skin responds really well to it, too, so I just opt for those. But when Dermalogica sent me this product to try out, I decided to give it a chance. The physical exfoliating aspects of this product appear to be rice bran and starch (from the little I know of ingredients).

IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?? It worked nicely for me — I never saw or felt any adverse reactions to using this and I did feel like it help brighten and exfoliate my skin. I do think this is one of the better products to get if you’re someone who likes/prefers a physician exfoliant instead of a chemical one. Are there gentle exfoliants that are cheaper? Maybe, but I haven’t tried any others that I could recommend based on experience. And for me personally, I haven’t ever repurchased this because I don’t prefer to use this type of product.

Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery Broad Spectrum SPF 50 | $75

This is another product that I no longer have on hand – I finished it up last fall and you can watch THIS EMPTIES VIDEO to hear my thoughts at the time of finishing it

I had a really nice experience with it. It gave me a slight white cast, but it wore well under makeup. It could pill up if I wore it alone and rubbed my face throughout the day, which I didn’t love. But overall it worked well and I liked having such high SPF on each day. But once I finished the tube I opened up an SPF moisturizer from Paula’s Choice and have been enjoying that even more as it wears nicer with or without makeup and doesn’t give me a white cast at all. And is cheaper!

IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?? Personally, I think you can get really good sunscreens for cheaper (like the Paula’s Choice) and JenLuvsReviews also looked at the ingredients in this product in THIS VIDEO and she basically said there isn’t a whole lot to this product other than spf. Which, as I said, you can get for cheaper. So with all that in mind, I don’t foresee myself repurchasing this product and wouldn’t really recommend it as being worth the high price tag.
