Without satisfied courier partners wanting to deliver through the Wolt platform, we have no business...For the second year in a row, we’ve done a survey together with Novus to better understand the challenges and drivers amongst the foundation of our company - the true heroes - our courier partners. This year we could see a number of interesting findings (follow the link below to read the whole survey):The courier partners are well educated.38% say they have finished their studies at university and 17% say that they are studying right now.The majority prefers a flexible partnership.64% prefers a flexible way of partnering with Wolt, while 15% say they would rather have a full time employment. 22% would like a full time employment in general. The courier partners are satisfied in general with the Wolt partnership.81% of the respondents say they are satisfied with offering their delivery services through the Wolt platform. To summarize: We are 100% dependent on having satisfied courier partners that actively want to accept orders and go online on the platform, given that we do no form of performance management and that you can choose yourself when to go online and which orders to accept. The survey result is a testimony that we are on the right track. But - we are far from done, as we always can improve and do more. If you want to discuss ideas, partnerships or other initiatives that can further improve the satisfaction among the courier partner community - please reach out!#gigeconomy #wolt You can read the whole survey here:https://lnkd.in/du5vjgbz

The majority preferring flexible partnership makes sense. Seems like Wolt is definitely on the right track.

Getir leaving Spain and France so quickly shows us that simply growing fast and buying other businesses doesn't always work out. This is a tough lesson for the quick grocery industry and a sad situation for the thousands of workers who might lose their jobs. In a time when money from investors is drying up and costs are going up, companies should be careful about how they grow. It's important to grow in a way that can last, rather than just trying to get big fast. And we should always remember that these business decisions affect real people's lives.#work #people #business #jobs

One of the exciting aspects of operating in the gig economy is its dynamic and rapidly changing nature. This week, I had the chance to speak about the changes we are seeing within Gig Mobility with Goldman Sachs on a webinar for the investment community. Some of the insights we shared were related to: 🚘 Driver Loyalty:DoorDash stands out amount of gig drivers committed to its platform exclusively, with only 25% of its drivers working for another platform in a given month. Other platforms gig workers "multi-app" at multiples well above where DoorDash is. 🥊 Market Share in Food Delivery:The battle for dominance in the food delivery sector is fierce, but DoorDash has carved out the lion's share across the US. This is despite UberEats presenting very similar offerings.📈 Marketplace Liquidity: The gig marketplaces are becoming oversupplied as more workers flock to gig work and consumer demand is compressed by increasing costs of living. We can see this represented by the decline in trips completed per driver per month over the last 2 years. These are just a few of the many takeaways from our webinar. Gig mobility continues to surprise and challenge us with its complexity and rapid evolution. Many thanks to Benjamin Miller and Eric Sheridan at Goldman Sachs for hosting me and to all our webinar attendees for a thought-provoking session!#goldmansachs #gigmobility #gigeconomy #rideshare #delivery

🗓 Talent Trend Tuesday 🗓 Is flexible pay on the rise?In June 2023,DoorDashannounced a new compensation option that allows its delivery drivers the choice between an hourly minimum wage (“Earn by Time”) instead of pay per delivery. This new option is meant to address equity concerns between couriers and incentivize drivers to pick up smaller orders that would likely be avoided otherwise. However, the treatment of drivers will be different between the two methods. Drivers on "Earn by Time" cannot reject orders and have limited access to benefits as priority access to high-paying offers. Will DoorDash’s new flexible program encourage other organizations to adopt flexible models as well?#DoorDash#gigworkers#compensation#flexiblepay

Where some may see a downfall, we perceive an opportunity for reorganization and innovation. The gig economy is not dying; it's evolving, and with that comes unique opportunities. We believe that change is not only inevitable but also a catalyst for creating smart, legal solutions. We're actively working on solutions to navigate these new regulatory waters, and we're optimistic about the future. If any company is looking for guidance or collaboration in this restructured landscape, we're open for dialogue and ready to contribute to shaping a viable path forward.

Denmark allows Wolt couriers to register as employees for EU residenceIn a significant development, Denmark has amended its regulations, allowing couriers working for the food delivery platform Wolt to register as employees to meet the European Union’s (EU) residence criteria. This adjustment is expected to facilitate EU passport-holding Wolt couriers in relocating to Denmark as their work with the company can now qualify them for Danish residency under EU rules.Previously, these couriers were classified as self-employed or granted residency based on the “sufficient funds” criteria, necessitating evidence of ample funds in their bank accounts to support their stay in Denmark. However, Wolt views its delivery drivers as “courier partners” rather than formal employees. The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) announced this change, stating that Wolt couriers would now be considered employees by SIRI for the purpose of EU residence registration.“Until now, SIRI has registered Wolt courier partners either as self-employed persons or as persons with sufficient funds. This is partly due to SIRI’s assessment that Wolt was not the couriers’ employer,” the statement from SIRI noted. “Now, SIRI assesses that Wolt, in connection with the evaluation of residence under the EU regulations, as a rule shall be considered as an employer for the couriers, and the couriers can thus be considered as workers if the other conditions for obtaining the status of a worker are fulfilled.”To register for a Danish residence document, Wolt couriers with EU passports can provide documentation of their courier partner agreement with Wolt and evidence of at least three months of work, including invoices or paychecks of substantial scale. Those couriers already registered under the sufficient funds rule can re-register as workers by submitting an application form to SIRI along with the required documentation. However, it is important to note that this change in practice at SIRI specifically pertains to Wolt courier partners and not other food delivery companies, as the status of workers under EU rules depends on the unique structure of the platform company in question and the nature and scope of the work.Earlier this year, a ruling by Denmark’s occupational injury authority found that Wolt was liable to compensate delivery drivers for work-related injuries, a decision that the company has contested. This update signals an evolving regulatory landscape that addresses the employment status of gig workers in the food delivery industry, reflecting the ongoing debate about their classification and rights.

Earlier this year, a research agency ran a survey in our 16 EU markets to understand how our Courier Partners feel about the proposed EU Platform Work Directive. What we found is that only 40% of Wolt courier partners feel they are being heard by policy makers on their thoughts what the legislative framework should enable for them. Their message was very clear: Almost four out of five (78%) would consider to stop delivering if the law forced them into employment without flexibility (i.e. ability to choose their own hours, tasks, vehicle or routes). This data has been incredibly important to inform policy making processes and shape our commitment to advocate for laws that allow our partners to combine the freedom and flexibility they desire with the protections they deserve. However, there's only so much aggregated survey data can show. Importantly, it does not show who our Courier Partners are and what their stories are. After all, behind every delivery is a human and a human story - a story in which partnering with Wolt plays a small role. That's why i'm so excited about this project where we'll be sharing short videos and blog posts of 12 Courier Partners in different countries in the next few weeks. While everyone's story is different, there's one thing everyone has in common: the shared desire for a flexible work opportunity that allows them to integrate their personal lives, hobbies, and passions seamlessly. First video linked below in the comments - thank you for sharing your storyNirajan Thapa!

This is a good move from DoorDash. In heterogenous society, drivers of engagement and needs both are also heterogenous. Which means one compensation solution becomes limiting lever. Freedom of chosing compensation between fixed and variable expands possibilities. Both for service engager and provider. These chocies must be made available beyond gig workers and across collars. With technology it’s quite easy to customise and administer unique formulation of compensation and fit it to drivers of service providers. From compensation structuring standpoint, this flexibility and calibration approach is nice engagement tool. #compensation #gigworkforce #incentives #LTI #rewardsprogram #compensationstrategy #compensationandbenefits #talentacquisiton

Every once in a while in the world of tech start-ups there is a hot topic that brings some new unicorns to the market. In 2021 speed grocery was in the spotlight, after a quick growth during the pandemic. Getir, the Turkish start-up, was leading the race reaching a valuation of $11.8 billion USD.After some acquisitions and conquering almost all Europe during 2022, at the beginning of 2023, with investment cuts and inflation adding to the equation, some experts were already alerting of the immediate burst of the speed grocery bubble. And June arrived with Getir announcement of closing France, followed one week later with the closure also of the Spanish Market. From the company side, they focus these closures on strict regulatory issues in European markets. The most critic experts point out that the main problem was a lack of sustainable business model. This debate continues to appear on and on. It happened before with ride hailing, food delivery, etc. There are always two sides: - The ones claiming Europe needs more flexible regulations to embrace innovation- The ones claiming innovators need to focus on sustainable business models from day one, that can operate in the actual regulation environment. If I must position myself, I'm more in the second group. We need to start focusing on innovations that can create sustainable businesses, and this not always means having a billionaire valuation, but having a steady income and market potential. But, is it really that simple? When and for which purposes is disruption welcome?#business #growth #tech #investment #sustainable #innovation #businessmodels https://lnkd.in/dSTH3Qvf
